<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 24pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">The
seating chart is can be one of the most daunting tasks with the wedding
planning process. You get all the way to the end of the planning and you almost
feel a little burn out, and now you have to do the grand seating chart. Here
are some tips to help you with the seating…

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">MAKE
A CHART<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">There are
several online forms of making charts now – theknot.com & weddingwire.com
both have great online charts to help. If you want to do it the old fashioned
way, get a large poster board, some post-it notes and push-pins. Draw out your
diagram (your venue should provide one for you) and label each table number.
Know how many seats will go at each table, and then start pinning names to each
table. If you don’t want to do a visual chart then I recommend making an excel
sheet. Label the table number or name as the header and assign people to those
specified tables with their names below.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">START
EARLY<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Start
putting your chart together as your RSVPs come in. If you know there are FOR
SURE YES people, such as immediate family and wedding party, you can start
early and add people as your RSVP cards arrive.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">ESCORT
CARDS & PLACE CARDS<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Some
people still don’t know what the difference is… escort cards take your guest to
a assigned table, a place card will actually assign your guest to an assigned
seat at that table. I recommend for large groups, SKIP the place cards, it
eliminates more to do before the wedding day, and also allows your guests the
opportunity to sit by who they want to sit by at there table. However, don’t
skip the escort cards or assigned table board. You definitely want to assign
guests tables and you definitely want to make sure your parents have a A+
table!! If you want, consider place cards only for VIPs, like parents or your wedding party.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;"> CONSIDER
RELATIONSHIPS<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">When
making a seating chart take into account who guests may know or what their
marital status is. You would want to avoid having one single friend at a table
with all married couples whom this single friend doesn’t know. Put college
friends together, put uncles and aunts together. Make sure children are close
to the dance floor and definitely close to their parents, guardian or sitter.
Ask your parents who they would like to sit with. Be open to their suggestions
of their friends and their friends relationships. Also, be aware of who you are
putting in the corners… would they be offended?

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">DON’T
SQUEEZE<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Nothing is
worse than sitting at a table that you don’t fit in. Make sure that you don’t over
pack the tables just so you will have less tables and save on a centerpiece or
two. Your guests will be very uncomfortable sitting at a table bumping elbows
with the person next to them. Leave your guests some breathing, eating and
socializing room; leave them space to pull their chair in and out as well. When
considering a venue, make sure you consider your guest size so you don’t run
into a “tight” situation.

Audrey Hepburn is a true icon, not only for her
movies, but for the civic work she has done for the community nationally and
globally. She is a absolute doll, a class act, and we love her
femininity and of course how she influenced fashion.

Truth be told, she has also been inspiring
countless weddings for decades. Lets check out some of Audrey & her wedding
influences…

One of the biggest ones is keeping the Bride hidden before her big day… but why is that… let’s check it out…

This actually began because marriages were pre-arranged and Brides and Grooms did not see or know each other before the wedding day. Prearrangement included bargaining the Bride for things like cattle, chicken, grain, etc.

Because the couple never actually met before the wedding day, the not seeing each other kept the Groom from running away before he saw what the Bride actually looked like. Running from the Bride is said to have brought financial bad luck to the families bargaining their marriage. Other superstitions talk about bad luck seeing her in her dress, but that came years later to lighten the blow of the woman being more of an object.

Today most Brides think its bad luck for her Groom to see her in her wedding dress before she walks down the aisle. Actually, if you follow tradition, they say it is also bad luck for the Bride to look at herself in the mirror before the big reveal. That tradition died fast!!

The first look is now becoming more and more popular, and the big reveal walking down the aisle is sort of becoming what puffy sleeves were of the 80s. Most Brides have never walked down the aisle before, so they don’t know the response they may get might not be all they are hoping for… the big reveal of the dress is not as dramatic because you just don’t get a chance to talk to each other about the moment. Plus a lot of Brides and Grooms I have spoken with have the same butterfly feelings as they do if they do or do not see each other before they walk down the aisle… so why not do the first look anyway?

The first look, that happens before the wedding ceremony, is probably one of the most romantic moments I have seen. The Bride walks up behind the Groom taps him on the shoulder, or walks down a large staircase and he is waiting for her at the bottom, or he comes up in the elevator and she is there awaiting his arrival. When the couple sees each other for the first time, it’s just them and the photographer, the moment is very private and the couple can share emotions they normally won’t get to share when they reach each other at the top of the aisle because they can’t really talk. The Groom spins his Bride around and sees her in her dress, and he really gets to enjoy her. Most Grooms aren’t thinking about the dress the Bride puts so much thought into when she walk down to the aisle, or likely even after ceremony because they are just thinking about tying the knot. If you want the compliments and the emotion… first look is the perfect option!

The first look is also great for photos… after ceremony the couple typically will only have about 45 minutes of photos which will need to include – couple, family, and wedding party. 45 minutes is NOT a lot of time and NOT a lot of photos. With the first look, they can have a full hour of couple photos if they want, 30-45 minutes of wedding party photos that are playful, and family photos can be done before or after ceremony. Then if the Bride & Groom want to attend cocktail hour, they certainly can, or they can do more couple photos – like sunset shots or more playful shots.

Event planners and photographers get a lot of questions from clients on the pros and cons of whether or not to set up a “first look” before the ceremony. From a photography standpoint, there are usually many more pros to seeing each other beforehand than cons, but what it comes down to is your personal decision. Usually, the biggest hesitation for most couples in seeing each other before the ceremony is in the thought of breaking tradition or not having that “moment” of seeing each other for the first time walking down the aisle. The trend in weddings lately has been moving more and more into breaking traditions or making new ones that fit today’s savvy couples.

One of the reasons I’m writing this article is because we have found that weddings where couples see each other before the ceremony usually have a far less stressful timeline. You also get to have plenty more natural light to shoot in and time with the couple for more creative portraits.

Here are two examples of normal wedding timelines – one with seeing each other beforehand and a more traditional timeline.

Traditional Timeline:

- Getting ready shots of bride and groom

- Groom and Groomsmen shots - making sure bride is hidden or in a different location

- Bride and Bridesmaids shots - making sure groom is hidden or in a different location

- Ceremony

- Family Formals – during cocktail hour

- Bridal Party together – during cocktail hour

- Romantics – during cocktail hour

- Reception

First Look Timeline

- Getting ready shots of bride and groom

- First Look – few romantics

- Family Formals

- Whole Bridal Party plus Bride with Bridesmaids/Groom with Groomsmen

- Ceremony

- Romantics – during the first half of cocktail hour

- Bride and Groom entrance during last half of cocktail hour/spend a few minutes by themselves/or keep on shooting romantics and more creative bridal party pics till reception time.

- Reception

So, from looking at both timelines, here are the pros to the First Look

- More time for romantics! This is a big advantage because the more time I have with the bride and groom, the more creative we can get with the location, poses, etc.

- Family members get to enjoy cocktail hour since all family formals are taken beforehand

- The bride and groom get to enjoy cocktail hour a bit (with the traditional timeline, you are shooting the whole cocktail hour)

- We don’t have to try to squeeze family formals, all the bridal party together, and all the romantics into cocktail hour. With a traditional timeline, this usually causes a feeling of being rushed and usually results in less time for pictures of the bride and groom together. It may even result in missing the chance to shoot during the golden hour (the last hour before sunset and best light/most “romantic light”

- Once the ceremony is over, the bride and groom just have to worry about getting more shots of the two of them and then party time! There is definitely more “flow” in this sort of timeline.

- Make-up and hair look “fresher” in the images shot before the ceremony (this is especially true in the hot summer months)

Hopefully, this article has answered some of your questions and helped in planning out your wedding day. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail us!

Really against seeing eachother before the wedding but need a way to calm your nerves?

Here is an alternative to seeing one another before the ceremony! Why not share a private letter. Why We Love It: The bride and groom shared a special, private moment together before the ceremony—without seeing each other but still getting great photos!
And as most of you know Mr. Facebook married is partner in crime Priscilla Chan – a beauty he met in college.
The couple had spent more than seven months planning the wedding but had not even revealed they were engaged. Here were some of the fun details from the wedding… check it out…

DRESS

She wore one of the beloved designers in the wedding industry – Claire Pettibone. It was a laser cut lace neckline and sheer back. Such a stunner. You can also have your own if you love it as much as us.

THE SURPRISE GUEST

They had a special guest at the wedding. The internet entrepreneur’s dog, Beast, walked Mark’s wife down the aisle. The one-and-a-half-year-old Puli, a type of Hungarian sheep dog, has been a prominent figure in Zuckerberg’s life. The puppy even has his own Facebook page where he documents his daily activities like eating, sleeping and bathing.

THE VENUE

They were married in a smaller ceremony (under 100 guests) in their gorgeous backyard in Palo Alto, California! Simply Stunning! All of the guests thought they were there to celebrate Chan’s graduation.

THE DECOR

From some of the pictures posted you can see that they had gorgeous lanterns with white pillar candles along their path in their yard.
As you can see from Mark Zuckerberg’s update – you will find bistro or globe lighting in the background! An intimate and lovely choice for lighting for a backyard wedding.

Instead of the traditional guest book, have a framed canvas for your guest to sign. This is something you can hang in your home together as a unique memory of your wedding day.

o Leave blank squares to mount snap shots, from the ceremony to make as a collage.

Another thought is have a friend of family member at the door with a Polaroid instant camera. Take photos of each guest as they enter, and have them sign the photo. That way you really get to see everyone of your guests!

Really neat idea mail each guest a guestbook page. They can take their time and create, write something special. The guests then bring the page with them to be placed in the guestbook. What an awesome memory, very personal, and very unique.

o The bride and groom will have something much more well thought out then a hurried scrawl in a book as they pass by, they get to think and create and make it memorable.

o Great for all those scrap booking creative people out there, they can make a masterpiece for the couple perhaps including some memory photos of themselves with the bride and or groom!

Try a Birthday Calendar the Bright Life blog spotlights a fun way to remember your guests – with a birthday calendar guestbook. Each guest locates their birthday and signs on that square. What a fun way to document attendees as well as create a handy calendar for remembering the birthdays of the special people in your life.

With all the wrangling that goes into making sure the tiny tots who serve as flower girls or ring bearers make it down the aisle, why not consider including Fido in the wedding party? To those of us who consider our pets to be part of the family, this only seems natural! If you are planning to have your dog walk down the aisle, here are some things you might want to know in order to have a pet-friendly ceremony:

First things first, ensure that the church, hotel, or other venue that you are using for your ceremony allows pets on the premises. They may have a strict no-pooch policy or you could be required to place a non-refundable deposit to cover the cost of cleanup of any “accidents” (this practice is most common with hotel chains).

Next, practice makes perfect! If you haven’t already taken them, consider enrolling in obedience classes to learn the basic commands for sit, stay, and heel. This will benefit you beyond the wedding, but it will also teach your pup good manners when it comes to walking down the aisle. Socialization is important, too. Only you can gage how well your dog does with groups of people and receiving a lot of attention.

Assign a handler to your dog. This person should be in charge of not only escorting them down the aisle, but also making sure they have been walked before hand (this will get a lot of their energy out as well as give them a chance to use the potty) and are provided with water afterwards. Make sure you have a plan for what to do with your dog after the ceremony. Remember, you will likely be moving on to family photos and the reception and your pet will need a safe and comfy place to go, as well.

If you’re planning to make your dog the honorary ring bearer, do not allow them to carry the actual rings (most brides I’ve seen have sewn a small ring pillow to the collar on larger dogs or attached a lightweight pouch for smaller dogs). The last thing you want is for them to get lost, chewed up, or swallowed.

Inform your guests! Put this information on your wedding website as a warning to anyone with allergies so that they can plan accordingly.

Prepare your photographer to capture your pet in action. It'll help your photographer prep for those unplanned moments, like when your dog leaps up to kiss you during the vows. Your photographer can also help you brainstorm fun photo ideas with your pets for after the ceremony.

If you keep these suggestions in mind and your dog will be a comfortable, obedient, and treasured guest at your wedding.

Dogs Aren’t the Only Pets You Can Include!
It is a really fun project for the Groom, or you can purchase custom signs on sites like etsy.com. The beauty of a wedding sign is that you can have it say absolutely anything you want, the more creative the better. Detail is always key in weddings, and signs are an inexpensive way to add those extra details. Here are some of what I think are the most adorable wedding signs…

The “Here Comes the Bride” banner and sign concept is definitely trending. We love it, and we don’t want it to go away. Whether it comes in a banner form, sign or even flag form. It’s super adorable and a great entry for the Bride!

Absolutely perfect way to personalize your ceremony altar. No flowers necessary with this statement piece.

Perfect way to add a little fun to your photos. These would be really cute if you didn’t know what the other was saying and the revealing came when you got your wedding photos back.

This was a favorite of mine, when people don’t know your story, you can share it with them. A great and entertaining read, perfect for your cocktail hour or near a dessert bar to start conversation.

Photo booths seem to just be part of every wedding now, so get a sign the signifies the location of the photo booth so your guests don’t miss out on all the fun.

“Pucker Up” enough said. There is a lot of love to share, this is a great sign to include in your thank you cards. Too cute!

Two of my favorite signs are the “I Do, Me Too” signs. They just seem sweet.

I love that this sign sets the tone for the wedding and is a great welcome for guests.

Sometimes a picture says a thousand words. In this case you don’t need to have any words, but you still are offering that wedding personalization.

The blusher veil is a short, single layer of veiling worn over the bride's face before the ceremony. It usually measures between 24 to 26 inches from the top of the headpiece to the hem of the veil. Traditionally, the groom will lift the blusher veil at the end of the ceremony to kiss his bride for the first time as husband and wife. Another popular way to lift the veil is for the father of the bride to escort his daughter down the aisle, and once they reach the alter and her groom, he lifts the blusher to kiss her and present her to the groom.

Birdcage Veil

The traditional birdcage veil is a short veil that extends just below the chin of the bride. However, a new way to wear it is to crop the net so it falls just below the eyes or to sweep it asymmetrically across the face. The birdcage veil is a dramatic, modern, and unique choice of veil. The bride must have a vibrant and fashion-forward personality, as well as, be a bold and confident woman.

A birdcage veil is made of French, Russian, or English netting. The size of the squares that make up the netting is what differentiates the three classifications, with the French netting being the tightest weave with the smallest squares and the English being the largest squares.

Shoulder Length Veil, also called the Flyaway Veil

The shoulder length veil measures approximately 18 to 22 inches in length. A shoulder length veil is perfect for dresses that have a lot of details, such as beading, on the bust, waist or lower back. It doesn't compete with the details and allows them to be seen by guests and easily photographed. Shoulder veils are great for less formal events, where the bride wants to show off her beautiful dress.

A great version of the shoulder length veil is the flyaway veil. It is for the more "spunky" bride that wants her wedding to be all about fun and fashion, and less about tradition. This is a multi-layered veil that brushes the shoulders, measuring 18 inches in length. It is a less formal style of wedding veil and a great choice for brides wishing to emphasize the back details of their gown and for an ankle length wedding dress.

Elbow Length Veil

An Elbow length veil extends down to the elbow, and can be a single layered or multi-layered when paired with a blusher veil. It measures about 25 inches long and is most appropriate in an informal setting. Elbow length veils look beautiful with a romantic ball gown style dress, because they end where the fullness of the skirt begins.

Fingertip Length Veil

The fingertip length veil is the most commonly worn style, because it is universally flattering on every size and shape of bride, as well as it coordinates well with the majority of dress styles. This popular veil is called fingertip length because it is approximately 36 to 45 inches long and extends to the bride's fingertips.

Kate Middleton wore an absolutely gorgeous silk tulle fingertip length veil when she married Prince William on April 29, 2011. The length of her veil was a unexpected surprise, yet, it was perfect compliment to her delicate figure and elegant dress. Most people expected a cathedral length or regal cathedral length veil, but Kate's choice to wear a beautiful fingertip length veil enabled her to show off her stunning Alexander McQueen gown while maintaining the formality of the Royal Wedding.

Waltz Length Veil, also called Ballet Length Veil

The Ballet veil also called the waltz veil is extremely flattering on brides wearing a fitted gown without a train. It is a beautiful long length, but doesn't overpower a delicate or body-hugging dress. The length of the ballet veil is approximately 45 to 60 inches long and falls somewhere between the knee and the ankle.

Chapel Length Veil, also called a Sweep Veil, or Full Length Veil

Chapel length veil, sweep veil and full veil are interchangeable names for the length of veil that just brushes the floor. The chapel veil typically measures between 70 and 90 inches, and it should extend 6 to 12 inches beyond the train of the gown.

The Chapel Length or sweep veil is a great veil for a formal, elaborate gown with a chapel or sweep train. It is slightly shorter than the cathedral length veil, but they still drape onto the floor. Also, it is a great length have a multiple layer veil and combining the blusher veil and an elbow length veil.

Cathedral Length Veil

The Cathedral length veil is the longest and most formal wedding veil. It is the ultimate show stopper and looks best when worn with a cathedral or semi-cathedral length gown. The cathedral length veil is perfect for
the dramatic bride, having a formal event and a long aisle to walk down. It usually measures between 108 to 120 inches. Traditionally the veil is taken off after the ceremony and wrapped around the couples chairs at the reception to show they are united as one. Then the veil is kept and wrapped around the bassinet of their first born child as good luck.

Brides who are looking for an even longer veil, can go for the Regal Cathedral length veil which extends 130 inches or more. A great example of this veil worn by the beloved Princess Diana when she married Prince Charles.
A mantilla is a circular veil made lace, silk or tulle with lace around the edge. It is secured with a comb which allows the veil to frame the face and drape over the head and shoulders. The mantilla veil is typically associated with traditional devotional practices among women in Catholicism.
A mantilla veil is most appropriate for formal and semi-formal weddings held within a church, but can be worn at other ceremony locations as long as it coordinates with the wedding gown and the theme or type of wedding.
Double Tier Veil

A double tier veil consists of two layers, usually of different lengths. A double tier veil is a great option for brides who want to wear a blusher during their ceremony.

Triple Tier Veil

A triple tier veil consists of three layers, usually of different lengths. The triple tier veil is great for brides who want a dramatic veil. In North America, the bride wears two garters; one as a keepsake garter and the other for the throw away.
Both garters are worn on the right leg just above the knee.

Before the removal of the garter, the bride first throws her bouquet to the single women.

The groom removes the throw away garter from the brides leg, sometimes he removes it with his teeth , but more appropriately nowadays he uses his hands. He does this while the bride is sat in a chair.

After the garter is removed, he then throws it to the single male guests. The male guest then takes the garter and places it on the leg of the single female guest who has caught the bouquet.

Those that catch either item are said to be the next to marry. In some instances, it is said that they will marry each other.

The keepsake garter is removed later in private during the honeymoon night.

Numerous wedding garter traditions have been obtained over the years that still seem to become rules of etiquette today. Take a look at a few that are still popular and some that have long since been forgotten.

The garter tradition originated back to the 14th century. In parts of Europe the guests of the bride and groom believed having a piece of the bride’s clothing was thought to bring good luck. They would actually destroy the brides dress by ripping off pieces of fabric. Obviously, this tradition did not sit well with the bride, so she began throwing various items to the guests , the garter being one of them. It became customary for the bride to toss the garter to the men. But this also caused a great problem for the bride….sometimes the men would get drunk, become impatient and try to remove the garter ahead of time. Therefore, the custom derived at having the groom remove and toss the garter to the men. With this change, the bride began to toss the bridal boutique to the unwed girls who were eligible for marriage.

Another interesting custom dated back to the ancient times where the wedding garter represented the virginal girdle. When the groom removed the garter from the bride, this represented the bride’s relinquishment of her virginity.

An Old English custom was while the bride and groom were in their bridal chamber, the wedding guests would sneak into the chamber picking up discarded stockings and throwing them at the couple. Whoever flung a stocking that hung on the bride or groom’s nose, would be the next to marry.

“ Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue and a Silver Sixpence in her Shoe”

Did you ever wonder where the custom “Something Blue” derived from?

Wearing something blue dates back to biblical times when the color blue was considered to represent purity, faithfulness and fidelity. Back then the bride would wear a piece of blue clothing or a blue band around the bottom of her dress. The ancient Roman maidens also wore blue on the borders of their robes to symbolize their love, fidelity and modesty, while the Christians associated it with the purity of the Virgin Mary.
The releasing of butterflies is starting to become a very popular alternative to throwing rice. They are environmentally friendly and beautiful. As the butterflies fly around and even land on guests, you will see the delight and excitement on their faces. They will leave talking about the release and some may even be walking out with a butterfly on their shoulder.

When ordering butterflies, you want to make sure that they come from a reputable butterfly farmer. You do not want to try to save money and order "grow your own" butterfly kits. There are many things that can go wrong and you don't want to be disappointed on your wedding day.

The butterflies can either be released individually or as a mass release. You may want to consider the event to decide what type of release to do. You can order enough butterflies to hand out to all of the guests, you can just have the wedding party do a release, or the bride and groom can do a mass release. When doing a mass release, three to four dozen make a nice release. You can do more or even less, depending on the impression that you would like to make.

The individual release envelopes are a triangular shaped envelope. Different farmers offer different options. Some use origami envelopes; others use a card stock type. Some will offer to have names and dates written on the envelopes free of charge and others will charge a small fee.

The mass release box comes in many different sizes, shapes and decorations. You can opt to make your own or buy one from where you purchase your butterflies. They can range from a plain basket with netting wrapped around it, that you make yourself, to the more extravagant box decorated in satin and flowers. You can talk this over with whomever you purchase your butterflies from. They will be able to advise you on the best effect that you would like to achieve.

You do have to remember that the butterflies cannot be released in the rain or in temperatures below 65 degrees, depending on the type of butterfly that you purchase. In the event of rain, you can use a hanging cage that you can place your butterflies in and hang them at your reception. Where you purchase your butterflies will be able to help you out with what would be the best thing to do and ideas on what to do.

As you can see, you have many options and ideas that you can do with a butterfly release. They will add that unique and elegant touch to your wedding, but beware, they just might steal the show.
Regardless of how long your train is, your train will add elegance as you walk down the aisle. But sometime during your wedding festivities, those extra yards of lace and satin will probably be in the way. Adding a Bustle to your gown will make walking and dancing easier, and keep your gowns hemline cleaner also.

History of Bustles

Bustles date back to the 1800s when stylish women wore a frame underneath their dress to support the back of their very full skirts. This Victorian fashion also helped women's waists look smaller (a fashion goal that never goes out of style).

Bustle is in use today primarily to lift the long, elegant trains of wedding gowns off the floor. Instead of a framework worn under the wedding gown, the long train is lifted with buttons or ties to create a lovely bouffant style that is also very practical.

Although almost all brides utilize Bustles for their wedding gowns, you may be surprised to discover that the dresses do not come with bustles in place. They are added during alterations. This makes sense since all brides are not the same height and your bustle should lift the back of your gown to your hem length. So your bustle must be custom made.

Bustle Options

You have several choices in bustles: The Over Bustle and the Under Bustle (also known as the French or Victorian bustle) are the most common. But you can also choose the Austrian bustle which is less common but beautiful (see below.)You can choose the style you prefer and the one that will flatter your gown the best.

Bustles for Delicate Fabrics

Use care in selecting your bustle style if your gown fabric is delicate. The weight of the gown on the bustles may tear transparent, lightweight, fabrics like organza. So if your fabric is delicate, choose a bustle style that reduces the weight on each individual bustle. Read below for several bustle options.

The Over Bustle

The Over bustle consists of several hooks and eyes lifting your train off the floor. The "eyes" are placed along the waistline. The "hooks" are sewn in about 14" to 20" down the back skirt. Lace appliques, rosettes or bows may be needed to cover the hooks and eyes. Covered buttons also work well, and may look nicer, especially if you have buttons down the back of your gown. The longer your train is, the more hooks or buttons you will need.

The Under Bustle

Another option is the Under Bustle also known as the French or Victorian bustle. This method works especially well for gowns without a waistline and gowns that are especially decorative in the back area, as it doesn't cover up any lace or details in the gown right below the waist. The gown is lifted from the bottom area. The Under Bustle is also more secure than the Over Bustle.

For the Under Bustle, ribbons are sewn under the gown securing the outer fabric to the lining. Use different colors of ribbon to make the task of tying easier. Another way to make a French Bustle is sew loops into the inside back side of the gown in a diamond shape. A ribbon is run through the loops, gathered and tied to give the gown a bouffant look.

Austrian Bustle

While it is not as common, you can also create a very interesting bustle by creating a casing down the back seams and running a ribbon through it. The ribbon is pulled to create a look similar to balloon shades.

As you can see, with a variety of bustles to choose from you can add a great deal of style to your wedding gown while making it much easier to get around.
When we were girls, we tied white sheets to our waists and pranced "down the aisle". But now you're engaged and it is time to decide what train length is best for you! There are 6 standard lengths available, each term here represents a length category. Not to be confused with Hem Lengths, a train length is the length from the waist to the hem in the BACK of the gown!
No Train: Well, by definition, this is NOT a train, it is still an option so we will include it here. This is sometimes called a Floor Length Train, but if you are opting for a tea length gown or shorter, it may not even be floor length. Generally, it will be the same length front and back. This type of gown is is perfect for an informal wedding or a garden wedding , and can also be done for a semi-formal wedding if you wish.

Sweeping Train: This is the shortest of the trains and is also called a brush train because it just brushes the floor. Usually, the back hem is only a few inches lower then the front hem. It is perfect for an elegant informal or semi-formal wedding gown. It provides the elegance of a train without to much added fabric in the way.

Chapel Length Train: This is currently the most common train because it has the elegance of a full train but is still not overly cumbersome. A chapel train is generally 4 feet from the waistline. This is perfect for a semi-formal wedding gown but could be used for a formal or informal wedding gown as well.

Semi-Cathedral Length Train: A semi-cathedral is about half way between a chapel and cathedral length. Perfect for a semi-formal or formal wedding gown.

Cathedral Length Train: This is a popular choice for a formal affair or for that fairy tale look. A cathedral train is generally 7 1/2 feet from the waistline and is usually used for a formal wedding. These gowns often come with a bustling option or a removable train to allow for better movement on the dance floor.

Royal Train: Remember Princess Di's wedding gown? This is one of those trains this is still out the door when you reach the alter! If you dream is to have a Princess Di train, this is it! Also called a Monarch train, this train generally falls 9 ft from the waist line and is only used for the most formal wedding.

Often, the length of your train is determined either by your tastes or your wedding style. I have listed the most common wedding styles for each train option, but you can choose whatever suits you best. If you do not want a long train for the whole event, you can also consider a sweep train with a long, removable veil for that elegant look at the alter and free movement on the dance floor!
But you may have missed some small items in your search for the perfect wedding day look, those essential unmentionables that go under the dress. Undergarments provide the foundation necessary for your outerwear to look how it's supposed to. They can change the way your dress fits, so you'll need to purchase them before your first fitting. With such broad choices out there, we thought we’d share a few wedding dress undergarment secrets with you.

If you’re wearing a:

Backless wedding dress – A backless dress typically has a higher front which means that lift in your chest area is going to be important. In many boutiques you’ll find bras that stick to your breasts and give the lift you’ll need. Another option for wedding underwear underneath a backless dress is a backless bra with see-through straps.

Fishtail skirt – The fishtail skirt is the perfect shape to show off your sexy curves. Enhance your figure with a seamless push-up bra or wedding corset.

Wedding dress with sleeves - You can wear virtually any type of undergarments with this type of wedding dress, so go for comfort. To keep everything tight and in control, a bust-shaping body slip will do the trick

Bias-cut wedding dress - Wedding underwear is extremely important with this type of dress due to the fact that it hugs your body tightly. Because the dress is so form-fitting, look for a bra that boosts and enhances.

Spaghetti straps and a full skirt - You also have a lot of options with this type of wedding dress. Find seamless and smooth undergarments for a perfect look.

Halter-top wedding dress - These types of wedding dresses are popular, you’ll need a halter-top bra or a bustier. I suggest a halter bra for added comfort and extra support. These types of undergarments are easy to find, since halter tops are so popular. Try on several, and choose the most comfortable one that lifts and enhances.

Always remember to bring your undergarments with you when going for your wedding dress fitting!
Vintage weddings will bring you back in time where rock and roll and hairspray was a hit. The first thing the couple should think about is the specific time period. The vintage weddings theme can either be Victorian or retro, 1920’s to 1960’s. If the couple wants exciting concepts in the past, Victorian inspired setting will suit them. The couple who usually wants to have a vintage wedding would like to capture the atmosphere of real love and romance. Most couples say that traditional weddings nowadays lack the real essence of the event which is the celebration of love. In a vintage wedding, everyone will get to feel the past starting from the dress, songs and the dance.

Wedding gowns for this type of wedding are rich in history and character. The type of gown will also depend what time period the couple will have as their theme for their wedding. Most vintage style wedding gowns are elegant, glamorous, sophisticated and fanciful. For the groom, he may have a tuxedo specially made for the occasion which will also reflect the time period or their wedding theme. If the couple wants their guest to feel the vintage-style, they may send an invitation to their guest earlier informing them of the wedding theme. This must be done so that the guest will have ample time in looking for vintage style dress.

Aside from preparing the guest, the most important thing is to decorate the wedding venue properly. The couple and the guest should be brought back to the time period which the couple has for their wedding theme. Elaborate floral displays and laces will work for Victorian wedding concept. Ask the caterers to even have vintage-style looks and dress if possible. The music will be very essential in creating the correct theme atmosphere. Thorough research about the type of music and what music was the favorite during that time will help a lot. Preparing for a vintage wedding can be lots of fun. Going back to the past will definitely make everyone enjoy and feel good. Vintage weddings will be a glorious event for everyone. Go back in time and feel the love, romance and excitement by planning for a vintage wedding.
She and her fiance Kevin are the sweetest couple and I was thrilled to be planning their wedding. The theme that they wanted to do was a vintage/fun theme with the colors of yellow and pewter.

Marryoke: The new cheesy wedding trend
For the last few years, couples made their special day unique by copying coordinated dance routines down the aisle and at the reception, after that one couple did it on YouTube. Now, there’s a whole new “unique” thing everyone is doing: Marryoke.

Marryoke is lip-synch karaoke that a videographer captures your guests performing at different times of the wedding. When they edit it all together, you get a music video of your wedding, set to the timeless song of your choosing: Classic wedding songs like Etta James’s “At Last” and — nope, actually, Marryoke is mostly done to songs that aren’t likely to stand the test of time, like LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” or the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time,” a remix of that song from “Dirty Dancing.”
The trend began in the U.K., but has made its way over to our shores — so don’t be surprised if you’re asked to lip-synch to some Katy Perry at a wedding this summer. Wedding trends, like the coordinated dances to Justin Bieber and Chris Brown songs, spread like wildfire among brides looking for a way to distinguish their wedding day from all of the others. Videographers even offer special “Marryoke” services as part of their packages, now.

What will a Marryoke video look like at the 50-year anniversary? Probably really cheesy — but if the couple makes it to 50 years still happily in love, it doesn’t matter.
After over 2 years we needed more space for new gowns and as luck would have it the house next door became available. You can still look forward to visiting a historic Sellwood business. The new space is fantastic with a bigger dressing room and room for more inventory. Aralani photography has joined our space so if you are looking for gowns, photography or wedding and event planning we are the place to go.

That is why this was a perfect day in October for Sarah and Patricks wedding at Maysara winery in McMinnville. This winery is spectacular with a brand new building which was still not quite completed on the wedding day. When we first saw this facility we were thrilled to be coordinating this wedding.
